RECREATION CLUBS OVERVIEW
General
1. This Recreation Clubs Overview page is for serving and retired sappers as an overview of other pages forming themed recreation clubs such as fishing, golf etc.
2. The type of recreation clubs envisaged would be those that currently fall outside Regimental organised sports such as rugby or cricket. These recreation clubs would probably be operated on a loose informal style.
3. It is hoped the clubs would keep those who have left the army actively engaged with fellow sappers.
4. At this early stage, there probably won't be a seperate Recreation bank account within the Sappers Association [NZ] Inc. Something to consider later. Regional recreational startups can bank their fundraising with theri local Regional Branch [see page Finance / Fund Raising Payments]. Each Regional Branch is to have a seperate line in Performance and Position for each recreation club that has done fund raising.
Golf & Fishing
5. Trophies purchased by local recreation clubs would be registered in the minutes of the parent Regional Branch. These trophies would be accounted for each year in the Regional Branch stocktake and recorded in the minutes. Names of trophy winners would be recorded in the Regional Branch minutes.
6. Facebook for each club could be considered. Each Facebook would set at 'Private' and invite Sapper Association members only. The Facebook Administrator could be the Chair of the Era Decade Branch until Recreation gets a bit more organised. Each club [golf, fishing etc] would need to elect a Facebook Moderator for a year. This could be called a Recreation Moderator or RM. The Administrator formalises the new RM each year. Further reading on Facebook, Pages & Events is on 'Sappers / Members' para 24 towards the end. Each RM would also be an Admin on this website and can send out an email to about 250 members of the Sappers Association asking them to check their recreation choice in para 7 below.
7. Each member's Contact profile in Tidy HQ has a field titled 'Recreation' with a list of clubs [Fishing, Golf, Dance etc] for them to check when they join the Sappers Association or update their profile. Check the Club of interest to read that club's page [wait a few days for the website to refresh before trying to view].
Dancing
8. Those wanting to learn Ballroom & Latin dancing can stay at the Army Leave Centre at Mt Maunganui to have free lessons in Tauranga from a fellow member. There is a coin play jukebox with dance categories to practice dancing at the Tauranga Citizens Club. The login Dance web page has a table showing when the jukebox dance floor is available to practice dancing for the current week. Visitors would need to be carrying a Clubs NZ card.
