For years, the story of Sergeant Herbert Milne Williamson (4/216) ended in silence. With no headstone and no marked grave. His ashes were scattered by unknown hands, leaving no physical trace of his service or his life. This Sunday, we change that. "Once a Sapper, always a Sapper." We are finally bringing Sgt Williamson back into the fold of the Corps. After extensive research and cross-Tasman collaboration, a formal commemorative plaque has been installed to ensure his name is anchored forever at Waikumete. Join the Glen Eden RSA and the RNZE as we dedicate this memorial and ensure this "lost" soldier is never forgotten again. It involves finding out about the set up of the Wellington Army Leave Centre about 20 km from Porirua. Those members who may wish to start thinking about a one evening Decade Do social function at Porirua RSA for their own era of the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s & 2020s may want to come along for a night [bring your own sheets & pillow case if staying only one night].
